N2 - The main purpose of most buildings is to provide adequate conditions for human occupancy. This is typically reflected in various requirements pertaining to indoor-environmental quality (IEQ). Such requirements are typically formulated for distinct domains, including thermal, visual, and acoustic comfort, as well as indoor air quality. More recently, efforts have been undertaken to develop combined (or aggregate) indicators of IEQ. In this paper, we investigate the scope, potential, and limitations of a specific empirically based approach to the development of aggregate IEQ indicators that relies on a weighting procedure. Thereby, a set of empirically based weights are applied to a corresponding number of domain-specific quality votes in individual IEQ domains in order to derive the values of aggregate IEQ indicators.
