Abstract
Cyanobacteria can regenerate reaction equivalents like NADPH and ferredoxin by oxygenic photosynthesis; a unique process using light as energy source and water as electron donor. NADPH and ferredoxin are required by several oxidoreductases which is a constraint in the use of these enzymes for industrial applications. Light-driven biotransformations overcome this by coupling the photosynthetic cofactor recycling to reactions catalyzed by recombinant oxidoreductases.
