Abstract
Under the assumption that data and carrier phase are known to the receiver unit, the modified Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) for symbol rate estimation has been developed by the authors in a previous contribution, whereas the current paper concentrates on a carrier-blind and non-data-aided (NDA) scenario. Because a closed-form solution of the true CRLB is not available and numerical methods turned out to be too complex from the computational point of view, a theoretical limit of the jitter variance for carrier-blind NDA algorithms is derived, which is in particular helpful at lower values of the signal-to-noise ratio.
