Project Details
Description
The global increase in greenhouse gas and plastic emissions represents a central challenge for environmental and climate protection. While satellite-based Earth observation systems are increasingly used to monitor climate parameters, there is still a lack of compact, cost-effective, and specialized instruments capable of detecting plastics and greenhouse gas emissions from space. CubeSats, as standardized, miniaturized, and affordable satellite platforms, offer significant potential for flexible and cost-efficient missions, even for smaller countries, research institutions, and start-ups.
Spec2Cube aims to develop a miniaturized multiband spectrometer for the identification of plastic materials and gaseous substances in the atmosphere. The system is designed to be deployed as a scientific payload on a CubeSat.
