Project Details
Description
This project aims to establish and customise deep eutectic solvents (DESs) for biocatalytic applications in continuous processes. DESs are known as sustainable and environmentally friendly designer solvents with high tunability to optimise physicochemical properties for particular applications Composed of a hydrogen bond donor (e.g. urea, glycerol) and a hydrogen bond acceptor (typically a quaternary ammonium salt e.g., choline chloride), mixed at a specific molar ratio, DESs offer a new solvent dimension. DESs enhance substrate solubility, achieve high enzyme activity, and enable continuous processes not possible in alternative media.
