FFG SICHERE LEITUNG - Road safety potential of lateral vehicle restraint systems on the ASFiNAG motorway and expressway network

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Accidents involving personal injury are the second most common type of accident on the A+S network. However, these accidents account for around half of all road user fatalities on the network. A precise analysis of how many accidents occur in which vehicle restraint systems (VRS) fail to withstand the stresses involved is essential for evaluating existing VRS and planning future ones. The severity of injuries and the associated economic costs of accidents, taking into account human suffering, are also relevant. By analysing the effectiveness of FRS in Austria, road maintenance authorities can optimise their use of resources in terms of infrastructure costs. The aim is also to reduce the severity of injuries in accidents involving personal injury (UPS) with FRS failure.
