Project Details
Description
Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary subject that combines the disciplines mechanical engineering, informatics and electrical engineering. In automotive engineering, mechatronic components feature key functions in various application areas. Examples are conventional, hybrid, and electric powertrains, vehicle dynamics control, applications in active vehicle safety, comfort functions (e.g. seat systems), as well as a variety of implemented sensors and actuators.
The research area of automotive mechatronics deals with the development process, as well as with the design, construction, representation, testing and optimization of mechatronic components and modules in vehicle technology. This involves the systematic analysis and optimization of development processes, taking into account the entire functional chain. The comprehensive consideration starts with system design, followed by the component and module design phase, and ends with production engineering, testing, and information feedbacks from customers. An efficient integration of computational methods in design, simulation and testing of hardware and software modules is an important basis for the process optimization.
Another emphasis of the research area deals with the individual mobility of the future. This includes the conception and prototypical implementation of new vehicle concepts, focusing on the integration of innovative approaches and technologies.
