Personal profile

Research interests

I have finished my master study program of computer science & electrical engineering ("Telematik") in November 2001 at Graz University of Technology, with a master's thesis on medical image analysis (Image-based verification of parametric models in heart ventricle volumetry). In March 2007, I have defended my PhD thesis on nonlinear image registration of thoracic CT image data, achieving a PhD in computer science from Graz University of Technology under the supervision of Prof. Horst Bischof and Prof. Daniel Rückert from Imperial College, London.

Since then I have worked in post-doc and senior post-doc research projects regarding medical image analysis, facial image analysis and forensic applications of computer vision and machine learning at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Clinical Forensic Imaging (LBI CFI) in Graz, where I am still employed.

My research interests are clinical and forensic applications of medical image analysis, computer vision and machine learning algorithms, most recently a lot of attention is given to automatic forensic age estimation from radiological images (mostly MRI) in the context of unaccompanied minor asylum seekers entering the European Union without valid identification documents.

I am currently still affiliated with the Institute for Computer Graphics and Vision due to the lecture on Medical Image Analysis, which I am holding, and due to research projects which are performed in close collaboration between ICG and LBI CFI.
